Martifer and CGD Group establish partnership in renewable energy

Martifer SGPS, S.A. and CGD Group, through Caixa Capital, Sociedade de Capital de Risco, S.A. have signed an agreement for the collaboration in the promotion and execution of investments in the renewable energy area, namely in wind and solar energy, seeking to explore opportunities in Portugal and abroad.

Martifer will seek new investment opportunities in wind and solar energy areas, while the Private Equity Fund Energias Renováveis – Caixa Capital will have the opportunity to take a stake of up to 49% of the projects. Martifer will be responsible for the development, construction, operation and maintenance of the power plants and the agreement also establishes that Caixa – Banco de Investimento, S.A. could be the lead arranger regarding financing structures of these projects.

The Private Equity Fund FCR Energias Renováveis – private equity fund managed by Caixa Capital – is the first renewable energy fund launched in Portugal and has a capital of 50M€. About 50% of this amount is already invested in various projects, namely in wind power companies.

The Martifer Group is formed by about 120 companies, is present in over 15 countries and has four business areas: metallic construction, energy systems, electricity generation and agriculture and biofuels. Martifer is listed since 2007, year in which the Group had 519 million euros of consolidated revenues.

Through this agreement, Martifer and CGD Group intend to leverage on their individual competencies to allow the fast employment of resources reserved for investment in renewable energy areas, contributing this way for the diversification of energy sources and the realization of the targets established in the Kyoto protocol.
